DIRECTOR'S PERSONAL STATEMENT:

"My work is motivated by a desire to promote socially conscious thinking. I grew up in a small rural town in central Pennsylvania, surrounded by people who saw little hope for a better life as factories closed down and wages stagnated. Their hopelessness often led to drug and alcohol addictions, domestic abuse, violence, suicide, and other self-destructive behaviors that create wider social problems.
When I left I vowed that I would never forget where I came from, or the struggles of the working people who were my friends and neighbors. My town is like hundreds of other small towns all across America where people face the same struggle to create a better life for themselves and their families. It is for them that I feel it is important that this story is told. Once working people understand their own past, they will understand how we got where we are, and what needs to be done in the future.

These experiences and memories have provided a guiding principle in my work as a filmmaker. Although I am motivated by a sense of cause, at the same time I am able to look at issues without prejudice and present the facts in an unbiased manner. I believe these are some of the qualities that make my team and I the right candidates to tell the important story of the American labor movement." – Caeser Pink
